Qualitative Face Fit Testing
Do your employees wear tight-fitting RPE (aka masks)? If so, it is a legal requirement that these tight-fitting respirators fit the wearer. The way to ensure this is through face-fit testing conducted by a competent person. This is a requirement for ALL tight-fitting masks including disposable and reusable facepieces.
In addition to being a legal requirement, it is imperative when wearing RPE, that it fits correctly. Ill-fitting RPE will provide little or no protection to the wearer. We should not expect that one mask will fit all faces, we all come in different shapes and sizes, so for one mask to achieve a universal fit is extremely unlikely. For this reason, the mask needs to be fit-tested to the wearer’s face.
